20100521_GTX_0003.JPGWe all love this mythical and popular car, because we sailed in one being childrens, because someone in the family had one or just because it always made us want it... because it's endearing, whatever we say.
Its great success is certainly due to the fact that with a simple mechanics, with little or no electronics, it is easy to maintain by yourself without expensive tools, without forgetting that the parts are not expensive and always easy to find. Even today, for some homes, students and people with "little budget", it is a source of great comfort at a lower price: far from car loans and garage mechanics, which are becoming more and more inaccessible. The small engines models (the most common) are very robust and still consume very little, sometimes less than recent "equivalent" cars, which makes it by definition just as ecological, if not even more by the simple fact that we we always use it instead of buying new ones ... At the level of the official technical control, benefiting from its "seniority", it does not undergo the modern standards much too restrictive, the tranquility is assured.
Today it is still an interesting car for everyday use, especially and clearly from an economic point of view.
Collectors are also beginning to take an interest in this 30-year-old "granny": restoration, maintenance or refurbishment, repairs, etc ... make it possible to find "newer than new" models for the pleasure of the eyes and to see this French heritage thus safeguarded.
We have created this community to bring together all those who are interested and who wish to take part in this adventure to preserve their Renault Super 5, whether by maintenance, repair or restoration: you will find here all useful information and tips on these topics.

The forum is freely accessible in its entirety: there is no need to contribute, buy, neither pay anything to integrate the community and participate.
To be able to ask questions and share your interest, all you have to do is register and present yourself properly!
You do not have to have a Super 5: an interest in auto mechanics is enough

    Welcome !

So I will edit Top post to comment more on my R5:

Jobs Done after I got it:

Left wheel bearing changed

New cooling fan

New stereo, but also old Blaubunkt is almost converted to bluetooth radio

New speakers at the back

Dashboard and instrument cluster bulbs replaced - allmost all

Electric door lock mechanics cleaned and oiled

Handbrake indicator switch repaired

Cylinder head casket change

Cylinder head resurfacing (in shop)

New valve stem seals

All caskets and seals on the engine

New waterpump

New thermostat

New hoses on waterways

Gear lever casket repair on gearbox

New bushings on front

New control arms on front

New back muffler

New muffler bushings and clamps etc.

New driveshafts

New tyres

New/old wheels from market - somekind of monsters, but still Renault Sport - looking for R5 original alloy's

New/old back hatchdoor from France ;)

Back bumper repaired and painted, by me - so it needs to be redone or new bumper

Carburator redone - new caskets and needle

Jobs needed to be done:

Tents and color repairs

Front light wipers to be repaired

Front wipers mechanics needs new bushings or repair

Window electric lifters needs maintenance and oiling - very slow

Driver seat frame repair and new pads

All seat cover change, looking for original fabric or covers

Back and front bumper repairs

Tachometer gauge/rev counter is lying and lazy

Resettable odometer completely broken - so maybe new instrument cluster

Nearest future: new front shock absorbers - if anyone knows the exact code for those I will be very thankful! I have allready tried to order three different ones and all were wrong for my precious.

So I got tons of work to be done and not very cheap ones.

Welcome here! Nice one, with wipers on the front lights, I could not imagine this would be available on 2nd phase of Super 5 :o

If you have more picture of your car and its specific details, it would be so cool

It's been a while. I got my suspension in order and TÜV went fine this time. Also I got new tachometer from France ;) and it works. Now it's looking for winter apartment to store it over winter because up in here they use salt on roads and otherwise it will rotten away before I could drive it :D .

Still searching for pics, but not yet have found them. Latest picture from july :D

PS: 4th pair of dampers were right for my sweetie: TRW JHM466T

Winter has been fast. Last season went and almost no driving, but this year I'm ready ;)

New wheels are from Italy, got them with reasonable price and sent them to repair and they coated them with powder paint, now they are like new 😛

And made the stereo overhaul - old Blaubunkt is converted to Bluetooth/radio, cassette was busted so i replaced it with bluetooth module. So it has some secret buttons now ;)

The pilot seat is also repaired, made some foam repairs and also the seat frame got some welds. But the seat covers are busted and these are very rare, almost thinking about Turbo GT covers but these are not feasible with grey interior.

If anybody knows wehere I can get a windscreen wiper arms, it would be nice. Is there any Dacia or newer parts that is compatitable with old S5?

Nice work!

About wiper arms, unfortunately I think you have to focus on Super 5 to find some others… Except if you are ready to adapt some other model, but this job has never been done here yet.

I did some searching but nothing, maybe some old crap from eBay, but it was easier to make new rod connector from some Fiat wiper arm rod. I disassembled and got the wiper arm connector from there and paired up with my old wiper arm.  There was some grinding and pushing in some new bushing where it adapts to linkage rod, for now, it's working that way.
